Wondering how to use an LLM for small-business marketing that actually fits your brand voice?
These three steps nail it.
We are in the wild West of AI right now.
New AI tools are popping up left, right, and center.
“Prompt gurus” are running rampant.
Everyone is spouting their beliefs on how you should or shouldn’t use it.
And traditional search traffic has steadily decreased with the rise of LLMs.
I know how you must be feeling. Remember, we’ve been here before. With social media. With SEO. So we’ve got this!
I want to make this easier for you. I want you to feel empowered to approach AI fearlessly and use it to its full potential.
So let’s go over some basics.
What is an LLM?
LLM stands for “Large Language Model.”
It’s the type of artificial intelligence powering tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. These models understand and generate human-like text, enabling you to have back-and-forth conversations with AI, to ask questions, get help with research, and brainstorm ideas.
But before you dive in, a quick note on privacy: never paste private or sensitive information into public AI tools. Always review the platform’s security policies and know when it’s safe to use them.
Chances are, you’ve already started using AI in your business. The real question is: Are you using it well?
Are you getting generic outputs or content that sounds like it came from you?
Are you saving real time, or just creating more to clean up?
Used strategically, LLMs can become a force multiplier for your business: from writing compelling copy that sounds like you, to clarifying ideas, to streamlining operations.
How should I be using these tools?
If you really want to put AI to work for you, start with these three power moves:
1. Break The Ice.
AI can’t sound like you if it doesn’t know you. Think of it as onboarding a new team member. Explain your voice, your values, and your vision.
Start by telling the model:
“Act like Oprah, and interview me like I’m on 60 Minutes.”
Have it ask you 30 questions about your story, your opinions, your quirks, and your business goals. Then, ask it to summarize your answers back to you. If anything feels off, correct it. Then go deeper. Encourage it to ask follow-ups before moving on.
Don’t separate your personal from your professional here. Your brand is you! This includes your sarcasm, your favorite movie, your pet peeves, and your five-year business plan.
Bring the full picture.
2. Feed It Your Greatest Hits & Misses.
AI learns by example, not adjectives.
Start with your winners.
- Drop in your top-performing post.
- Add the metrics (reach, saves, clicks).
- Explain why you think it crushed.
Now hand over a flop.
- Paste the post that tanked.
- Say what you didn’t love.
- Guess why it fell flat.
Then ask the model: “Compare these two. Why does Post A win? How would you fix Post B? Give me three fresh ideas that copy Post A’s strengths.”
Let the bot zoom out.
It can see the buyer-journey gaps you’re too close to spot, such as missing objections, weak CTAs, and untapped keywords.
Use that outsider view to tighten hooks, plug holes, and level up every piece before you hit post.
3. Don’t Hesitate To Iterate.
One prompt is only a draft.
A thoughtful prompt gets you 80% there, but the last 20% comes from feedback.
When the first pass misses:
• Pinpoint what’s off (tone, length, structure).
• Tell the model exactly how to fix it.
• Ask for a fresh version.
Be direct and give feedback like, “This is too formal. Make it conversational and add a punchy CTA.”
Coach it like a new hire.
You’d guide an intern, not rewrite their work in silence. Follow the same rule for AI.
Stay direct, stay specific, keep refining.
Every tweak teaches the bot your brand voice and delivers better responses each time.
These are my top three ways to begin using an LLM effectively to get personalized, strong outputs that boost your business to a new level of impact and efficiency.
And…this is just the beginning of what I’ve learned about how to capitalize on AI tools for your marketing.
