Post Summary

Staying ahead of AI is no longer optional for businesses that want to avoid becoming obsolete. Lisa Larter recommends three simple strategies: using AI itself to summarize weekly industry updates, following only one or two trusted experts to avoid information overload, and investing in deeper learning through structured courses or conferences. Real mastery comes from regular, consistent exposure and implementation rather than trying to learn everything at once.

Today is the final day of MAICON 2025, one of the most important AI and marketing conferences in our industry.

Since Tuesday, Cass, my Senior Team Manager, and I have been here, dividing and conquering every session we can. Instead of attending the same talks, we split up, took notes, and compared insights, so we could bring back twice the value from this one conference.

And we’re not doing this just for ourselves.

We’re doing it for our agency, our clients, and our AI-Driven Marketing Made Easy participants, because staying ahead of AI is no longer optional. It’s necessary.

AI does not elevate businesses that use it, because it is only a tool, but it does expose businesses that don’t know what they’re doing.

Using AI is amplifying your understanding and your efforts to a new level we’ve never experienced before.

In fact, one key takeaway I learned at MAICON is that your business will soon fall into one of three categories: AI-Native, AI-Emergent, or Obsolete.

Businesses that learn how to use AI as it evolves will outperform those who wait to catch up later.

So how do you stay current with AI without feeling overwhelmed?

You can’t sit down and “learn it all.”
AI changes daily. Tools are evolving in real time.

What you need is a consistent way to stay in the conversation and keep learning consistently, whether it’s quick updates or deep dives through webinars or in-person events.

Here are 3 of the best ways to learn about AI:

1. This one is the easiest: Let AI keep YOU updated.

Open ChatGPT and say:

“Give me a weekly update on the latest AI tools and strategies for [your role] in [your industry].”

AI can scan the noise and deliver only what’s relevant.

Let it do the filtering and deliver a concise summary of updates directly to you automatically.

2. Follow 1–2 trusted experts, not every expert you come across.

Find one or two people in your industry who actually understand AI in context, and let them be your trusted source of information. Don’t overwhelm your mind and your feed with every guru you come across.

You don’t need more voices. You need the right ones.

3. Go deeper with courses and conferences.

If you want real transformation, not just surface-level tips, immerse yourself in a webinar, course, or conference.

Webinars can be a quick, informative way to deep dive into specific uses or topics of AI without having to travel or set time aside week after week.

Courses give you structure, guidance, and implementation in a community with dedication over time.

Conferences, like MAICON, give you direct access to leaders in the AI space sharing their insights.

The truth about AI learning:

It’s not a one-time dedicated block of learning.

It’s regular, consistent exposure and dedication to learning and implementing over time.

That’s why I’m dedicating hours to learning about AI every week, and I encourage my team to spend 90 minutes a week learning and sharing their insights. We even have a shared space dedicated to sharing takeaways, tools, and shortcuts, so everyone can benefit.

Some weeks, we find a prompt or shortcut that really makes an impact.

Other weeks, it’s a software update that may not affect us, but it’s important to keep learning so we can continue having those breakthroughs.

P.S. I’m considering offering a Foundations of AI Marketing program in December for business owners who feel brand new to AI.

If terms like LLM, Custom GPT, AI Projects, Deep Research, Generative AI, Agents, Content Matrix, Sora, or V3O don’t make sense to you, this program would help you understand the language, tools, and fundamentals so you’re ready to actually use AI in your marketing.
