Go Further, Faster in Your Business

Do you wish you could go further faster in your business? Do you wish you could fast-track your reach, increase more leads, and grow your sales more than you are currently doing?

It is possible if you’re willing.

This year, one of my goals in The 365 Project was to walk more each day than my average number of steps last year. Most mornings, I walk at least three miles with my friend Rita at 7 a.m.

In February, Rita went back home to Connecticut for a few months and I was left to walk alone. With no walking buddy or time commitment, I could walk when I wanted.

My goal was to beat last year’s average, which meant the bar wasn’t that high.

  • January – I averaged 9,365 steps per day
  • February – I averaged 8,153 steps per day (Rita left in February)
  • March – I averaged 7,081 steps per day

Rita returned last Thursday and here are my steps since she returned:

  • Friday – 9,242
  • Saturday – 5,353
  • Sunday – 9,379
  • Monday – 8640
  • Tuesday – 9,595
  • Wednesday – 10,062 (before 9 a.m.)

That’s an average of 8,712 steps each day, which is a 23% improvement over my average in March!

Here’s the lesson: If you want to go further faster, you need someone to help you move past discomfort and rationalization.

On Wednesday morning, I told Rita that we almost walked 10,000 steps that day. She replied, “Do you want to hit 10,000 steps? We can do that.” And, we did.

When you have someone who is committed to the journey with you, you show up and do more because they help you move beyond what you might do alone.

In business, this is why you need a coach, mentor, or accountability partner to help you do the things that make you uncomfortable.

A few weeks ago, after telling a client over and over again that they needed to post on LinkedIn to increase their visibility, I said, “We’re doing it together now.” They shared their screen and together we came up with a post for them to share. Within a couple of days, that post had over 1300 views and several comments. They were shocked at how responsive people were to what they had posted.

“Why did it take me so long to do this?” they asked.

Another client of mine reached out for advice last year. They were about to quote a fee for coaching that was significantly below the value they provide. I told them that if they offered their services at that fee, they were fired and I would no longer work with them. They increased the fee dramatically, and guess what? Their buyer didn’t even question it and now that fee is their new normal.

“What is wrong with me? Why do I get in my way when it comes to money?” they said.

It is 100% normal for you to rationalize and play a smaller game when you’re alone.

I do it too, as evidenced in my steps.

But, if you really want to grow, you need to find people that can and will help you go further faster. People who push you out of your comfort zone, inspire you to take bigger steps, bolder risks and accomplish greater things every single day.

P.S. Shout out to Stephanie Rainey, a former coaching client of mine who has helped me get further faster in a big way on my new podcast, She Talks Business. You can listen to us riff a bit together on Episode 4!
