Before my team touches on a single tactic for our “Done For You” marketing clients, we typically start with a Strategic Marketing Roadmap—a three-phase process we call Discovery, Diagnosis, and Deployment.
Let’s clear something up: Marketing is not just content.
Yes, content matters, but without strategy, it’s just noise.
Smart business owners don’t waste time “posting and hoping.”
They make intentional moves, backed by data and driven by a plan.
Here’s what our process looks like and how you can use a similar (more condensed) structure to map out a strategy that actually drives results for your business:
1. Discovery
This is where it all begins. In this phase, we gather deep insight into your business, brand, goals, challenges, and audience. It’s about listening, learning, and aligning.
Key elements of this phase include:
- An intake call/discovery session
- Review of your current marketing efforts
- Identifying goals, opportunities, and gaps
- Understanding your ideal client and positioning
Ask yourself this:
- What are your growth priorities this year?
- What’s working (and what’s not) in your current marketing efforts?
- Who is your ideal client and how well do you really know them?
2. Diagnosis
Using everything uncovered in the discovery phase, we analyze your current marketing landscape. This is where the strategy starts to take shape.
Key elements:
- Marketing audit + competitor analysis
- Defining your brand’s voice, value prop, positioning and messaging
- Prioritizing objectives
- Choosing the right channels and tactics
Ask yourself this:
- Are you articulating your value clearly to each of your audiences?
- Is your user experience intuitive?
- Are you inviting people to engage, learn, and take the next step?
- Do you have consistent themes (content pillars) that reflect your services?
- Are you creating the kind of content your audience is actually searching for?
- Where can you use video to showcase expertise or personality?
- Can you repurpose content into multiple formats to extend its reach?
- Are you using email, SEO, GEO, and social media consistently?
- Do you have a system for attracting new leads while nurturing the ones you have?
3. Deployment
Now we put the plan into action. This phase translates the strategy into real-world steps you or your team can take right away to grow your business.
Key elements:
- A messaging strategy to clarify and strengthen your brand voice
- A content plan with topics, formats, and distribution strategies
- A step-by-step implementation plan
- Recommended timeline + tools
- Priority actions to improve visibility, lead generation, and audience connection
- A measurement framework for success
Ask yourself this:
- What quick wins could we act on immediately?
- Where are we over-complicating things?
- Do we have clear priorities, or just a list of “stuff to do”?
If you want to build something like this on your own, start with a simple audit:
What’s connecting? What’s confusing? What’s missing?
But if you’d rather not do this alone and want clarity from a trusted strategist, I’ve got news:
We typically only offer one Strategic Marketing Roadmap per month… but we’re opening up a second slot for May.
These are incredibly detailed and take a lot of time and brainpower, so we only work with people who are ready to take action and committed to growth.
