The MOST Undesirable Behaviour Ever

It’s the most disgusting thing in the world, catching your puppy eating her own poop, or chasing her when she does so I can… what?  Try and get it out of her mouth?

My dog eats poop and it makes absolutely no sense to me WHY she does this.

This poop eating habit really got me to thinking about undesirable behaviour.

Why do we do things that make absolutely no sense?

Things like avoiding our marketing when we want to be well known? Avoiding the execution of a well thought out plan because we don’t feel inspired? Starting a business to make money and gain freedom and then never look at our numbers?! Or how about starting a Facebook page for our business and then never get back to customer inquiries?

Your actions speak so loudly that it’s often hard to hear what you say you really want.

And just like my dog eating poop is really undesirable, your behaviour in playing small is too.Sunshine

To my dog, ~somehow~ eating poop makes sense. To me, it defies all reason! It’s gross and that’s all that needs to be said.

What about your behaviour? Does it make sense? Are your actions aligning with what you say you want in your business?

Human beings act based on how they feel.

When you feel doubtful, fearful, uncertain, tired, lazy, insecure, or not good enough – you avoid doing what you need to do in order to have what you want.

In essence, your behaviour really doesn’t make sense. Seriously, it makes no sense. Your behaviour your own human version of poop eating.

When you feel confident, self-assured, ready, inspired and on top of the world, your behaviour steps up to the plate and you take action.

The questions you have to ask yourself are:

How can you do a better job of managing your feelings and avoiding the undesirable behaviour that doesn’t make sense if you really want to build a successful business?

How can you become consistent around marketing and allow yourself the time you need to build your brand, reputation and reach without giving up and getting discouraged?

How can you carve out time to create a plan, stick with the plan, and do the things you need to do to build a sustainable business?

How can you embrace your numbers, learn what they mean, get curious about how to change them and attract more customers to your business?

How can you become more responsive and alert to those people who really want to do business with you?

Show up every day and do what you need to do.

Learn how to shift your emotions so that you can take the appropriate action to do the work.

I know, I know, it’s not as easy as I just made it sound to simply just “show up and do what you need to do” So if you’re not sure how to start, let me explain…

1. Start an accountability group with another business owner.  Make getting things done and reporting into each other a daily occurrence.

2. Join a group coaching program and become the keener who always has something to celebrate. Seriously RISE up within the group and be an action taker, double down on your competitive side and show them what you’re made of.

3. Hire a business coach to hold you accountable or do the work with you.

If you really want to build your business, you need to stop with the undesirable behaviour and start doing what it takes to move forward. That means paying close attention to your emotion and your behaviour.

Great article… my dog eats poop too! one of the best ways I’ve found to manage emotions is by releasing anger, sadness, fear, hurt, guilt using time line therapy which works with our unconscious mind… where all our emotions are stored! Its an easy, simple, yet most effective process and my clients enjoy it too. Also to elicit your values in the context of your business and your life. What’s important to you about your business? keep asking this question over and over again, until you get to two blank spots. This is where you’ll find the golden nuggets! The values that are unconscious which drive our behavior. Then number them in order of importance to you. Once you know your top five – know that these are the one’s that drive your behavior and if there are some that are lower on the list such as money – you may need an NLP technique to move it up. We also look at towards and away from values…. its quite interesting learning about yourself at the unconscious level.

    Reminds me of the Tubes song What Do You Want from Life.

    Most humans seem to move away from the undesirable, rather than towards the desirable.

    The latter, the way that produces results, requires what engineers refer to as Make the Plan, Work the Plan.

    In either case, what you DO, reveals your true desire.

    Embrace it. Or change it. Simple.
