Three Key Principles to Achieving Success in Your Business

Recently I spoke to at the Canadian Florist Business Forum and shared with them my thoughts on how to successfully run a business in today’s world.

There were three principals that I believe are key to building and sustaining momentum in your business. Three things that have served me in my corporate life, when I owned my retail store, and again in my consulting business.

When I work with my clients privately, we go over these three things as the foundation for helping them achieve results.

It goes like this:

  1. A solid business foundation – This is where we get into the nitty gritty about the numbers. I will explain why this matters in the video but the bottom line in your business is this, you need to measure what matters. Don’t run a business based only on feelings and no data. Have a solid plan and you’ll be successful! <—Click to Tweet
  2. Strong best practices – Starbucks, McDonalds, Banana Republic, Zappos and other world-class business operators know the value of having best practices in their business. It is the cornerstone for growth. Without best practices your business is more likely to tip backwards and implode than it is to realize the real growth and potential that it has.
  3. The right marketing mix – Marketing matters. It is how people find out about you and in the 21st century there are three key elements to marketing that help you achieve word and world of mouth referrals and endorsement, besides exceptional service.  Those three things are Content, Email and Social Media Marketing. You need all three in order for you to be able to regularly communicate and engage with your customers.

Creating a successful business online and offline today requires the right mix of business savvy. These three principles have been used over and over again by some of my clients to attain some pretty incredible results.

Check out today’s video and let me know what your thoughts are below.
