While listening to The Knowledge Project podcast last week, I heard Codie Sanchez say that effort matters more than capability.
Sometimes, someone says something that makes you stop, take notice, and reflect. In this case, I rolled over in bed, turned the light on, and wrote down “Effort versus capability.”
It caused me to ask myself, “Am I putting in the effort I need to get the outcomes I want?” It caused me to rework the materials I had for clients the next day to challenge them to question themselves in the same way.
Effort isn’t sexy.
Effort isn’t glamorous.
Effort isn’t easy.
There are so many other solutions to business problems that tend to stand tall in a line ahead of effort, but what if effort is the domino that sets it all in motion?
- It takes effort to write a blog and newsletter every week.
- It takes effort to create, record, and distribute a podcast.
- It takes effort to respond to every email in your inbox within 24 hours.
- It takes effort to prepare for your week and your next meeting.
- It takes effort to double-check your work to ensure it’s the best it can be.
- It takes effort to send a handwritten note to someone in the mail to say thank you.
- It takes effort to eat well and move your body every single day.
Effort is the deal breaker in your life and business.
If you want this year to be fantastic, start asking yourself:
“What would this look like if I was really putting in the effort that is required to get the outcome I want?”
Once you know the answer, you know how to show up and what to do.
And then, do that over and over again.
Skip the scroll, stop the mindless surfing, snooze Netflix, and instead, double down on effort.
