Self-esteem is the inside job that might be doing a number on you and your business, and you might not even know it! So, how do you build your self-esteem so you can grow your business?
I am not an expert on self-esteem, but I do know that I grew up poor, quit high school before I got my diploma, and there was an awful lot I needed to learn in life. I have definitely faced my own demons when it comes to building my own self-esteem.
The definition of self-esteem is confidence in one’s own worth or abilities.
When you meet somebody who has really high self-esteem they are confident in their worth and they are confident in their abilities. Someone with low self-esteem, they are not.
The question is…how do you become confident?
If someone asked you how good you were on a scale from 1 to 10 at brushing your teeth chances are you’d respond with something like, “Dude! I’ve been brushing my teeth since I was a toddler. I can brush my teeth with my eyes closed!”
You’re confident in how you brush your teeth because you’ve done it a lot for a very long time. You don’t think, “Oh gee, I’m a bad person, I don’t know how to brush my teeth.” And, even when you were a toddler and you were learning how to brush your teeth you didn’t think, “Oh I suck, I don’t know how to brush my teeth.”
Those are not the things that go through your mind as a child.
So, why is it that as adults we question our value and our worth so much?
Often, it’s because we don’t even consciously think about it. We don’t stop and think about why we are feeling what we are feeling.
There is a formula that has helped me to build my own self-esteem and has helped me to grow my business and I want to share it with you.
CASH is the formula…no, not cash money CASH the acronym:
C = Courage
If you demonstrate a bit of courage you will build your confidence! When you do something you are afraid to do it builds your confidence.
A = Aptitude
We often lack the aptitude or the skill for the thing that it is that we want to do and because we don’t know how, we don’t try. If you learn how to do the thing you’re afraid of, your self-esteem will improve.
S = Self-confidence
Self-esteem and self-confidence are basically the same things. When you demonstrate the courage to improve your aptitude you automatically build self-confidence. Many think it’s the other way around and that they need to build self-confidence before they have courage and aptitude. Not so!
H = Habits
This is last, but not least is habits. Habits are underrated and they are super important. Your daily practices – your habits – are the things you do over and over again and those things really matter. What are the habits that you need to change? Some say it takes 21 days to break a habit, I think it’s more like 42 days to really start or stop a practice. The habits you put into place and practice every single day contribute to your self-esteem and that contributes directly to your success.
Courage, aptitude, self-confidence and habits build your self-esteem and help you grow your business
