As a business owner, it’s important that you understand your priorities in building a business.
You need to have systems in place. Reporting to measure your numbers, a mechanism to build your list, an active presence on social media, a quality product or service to offer etc. But there is one other thing that you need that may not show up on your business plan.
This one thing is so important people often lose sight of it.
It can be easy to spend all of your time focusing on strategy, marketing, engagement, funnels and sales. Those things are the mechanics of how you build a strong and successful business.
But if you’re missing this one thing, those items will not serve you.
You may be thinking that I’m talking about profit. Profit is really important but it’s NOT the thing I am talking about. You see the thing that I am talking about is far more important than profit and it really needs to be added to your calendar and priorities for years to come.
The one thing MORE important than #sales in #business Click To TweetThe one thing I am talking about here is simple.
Your sales mean nothing without the human connection you have with the people you care the most about.
You may be held down working 18 – 24 hours to serve your family. But do you tell them you love them every day?
You may be hoarding scores of money so that they never need to worry about the future, but can you take five minutes to listen to what they are saying?
You may be on your mobile phone consuming everyone else’s life, but do you notice when someone you love really needs you?
When a family is in crisis, you’ll stop everything for them. It’s a given that they are your number one priority but if you only really show up and care for them in crisis, how do they know?
The people who matter most to you in your life don’t care what kind of car you drive, or whether you hit 6 figures last year or not.
They care about you.
If you care about them, then this is a sign that it’s time to put them on your priority list.
Stop working after a set time and put your phone away.
Start having a conversation with the television turned off.
Start doing things together that are meaningful and enrich your relationship.
It’s great to have a successful business, I get it. It’s rewarding beyond belief but I gotta tell you, I would trade my business in a second for the people I love most in life.
Your success means nothing if you are missing a connection to the people who matter most to you in your life.
You can always make more #money, but you cannot make more #time Click To TweetDo something for someone you love today… Write them a love note, or bring them coffee. Do something for them that is small, but shows them that you care.

Thank you, Lisa. I really needed to hear this today…
It’s a reminder that we all need to hear.
Love this article. One of my top three goals this year is freedom with salary. I’m aiming to keep my business hours within my kid’s school day hours so that I can really listen and greet them when the come home from school and get on with caring for my family and myself.
