Tomorrow, my husband and I leave for Knoxville, Tennessee, to meet up with friends from Canada for the weekend. We are going to see the Tennessee Volunteers play football on Saturday evening, and I cannot wait. It will be my very first live Tennessee game, and I am all in for the game, the fireworks, and the tailgating!
I love watching college sports, especially the enthusiasm that goes along with college football and basketball. These are high-pressure games surrounded by over-the-top fan enthusiasm, and the commitment that these young athletes show blows my mind.
Especially their mindset.
Last weekend, when Tennessee was playing against Kentucky, they were down. Kentucky scored the first touchdown, and then you won’t believe what happened. Twice, one of their receivers dropped the ball in the end zone, causing them to lose out on a touchdown that could have helped them regain control of the game.
Not once, but twice!!
Have you ever dropped a ball and then spent the next week beating yourself up over it?
Have you ever been so far behind that you just gave up because you felt there was no way to reach your goal?
This team and these players don’t let the dropped balls stop them from getting back up. They continue to try until they win. Tennessee ended up beating Kentucky by 10 points, but it was close for a while. They were trailing behind for a good part of the game.
In life and business, you will drop balls, and there will be times when you fall behind. How you respond to those things differentiates a true professional from an amateur.
Don’t let the dropped ball make you stall out on the results you really want. Surround yourself with people who see your potential and inspire you to try again, keep going, and keep the end goal in mind all the time.
We all face setbacks, and how we handle them defines where we get in life.
Next time you’re looking for inspiration, turn to a college sports game, and you’ll find it.
