Your mind is an incredibly powerful tool that has the ability to transform your life and your business. The problem with your mindset is that you can’t change it if you’re not aware of it.
Your mindset has the ability to create a massively successful business, OR it will stop you dead in your in your tracks.
If you read the book Mindset written by Carol Dweck, she talks about people having two different types of mindsets. You can either have a growth mindset, or you have a fixed mindset.
Those who have a growth mindset believe that anything is possible.
They are the type of people who just figure things out. They believe that they can do great things, and accomplish great things. People with a growth mindset KNOW they can create a life of success. The difference is going from thinking “I can’t” to “how can I?”
Those who have a fixed mindset are lacking in self-belief.
If you’ve got a fixed mindset, learning something new is going to feel like it’s “too hard” or “too late” or it “takes too long.” When you have a fixed mindset, those little voices in your head are going to make you afraid of failure. Fixed mindset means focusing on the possibility of failing, instead of the possibly achieving huge success.
Don’t allow yourself to have a false impression of how other people accomplish their success, and a false impression of what you are capable of. When you have a fixed mindset, you lack clarity and chances are, you’re hanging around with the wrong people.
The good news is: if you don’t think you have a growth mindset, there are ways that you can create one. Most importantly, you should be surrounding yourself with people who DO have a growth mindset. When you have people in your life who see nothing but possibilities in everything they do, you can’t help but get inflicted by their optimism.
People who have a growth mindset are the types of people who you hear rags to riches stories about.
You know the ones. There are people out there that have really horrible pasts, they’ve had really bad things happen to them, but yet somehow against all odds, they overcome those things and create something absolutely incredible out of their life! Those people have a growth mindset.
Your mindset will make you or break you in #business Click To TweetIf you don’t think you can, then you can’t. It’s truly as simple as that.
A team member of mine and I were having a conversation one time, we were looking at some really beautiful mansions in Naples Florida. She said to me “Oh Lisa, I won’t ever even SEE that amount of money in my life, let alone buy a house for that!” I immediately turned around and started drilling the importance of mindset into her young, 20-year-old brain. Because, if she can understand the importance and make those changes at that young of an age, the faster she’s going to be able to achieve her goals.
I make sure to do things certain things regularily to maintain a growth mindset.
1. Write in a gratitude journal. I appreciate and feel grateful for what I have right now, and I don’t dwell on what I don’t have yet.
2. Plan… a lot. A goal without a plan is just a dream, right? When you start to map out your goals they start to feel realistic and the path becomes visible right before your eyes. Every year I do a full day of planning in my business to map out what I want the upcoming year to look like.
3. Meditate. Meditation helps me ground myself, and re-focus on what is important in my life.
4. Reading every day. Reading expands my knowledge, and helps with my creativity.
5. Take on challenging projects. I’m always taking on challenging projects because it boosts my confidence when I prove to myself that I am capable.
6. Surround myself with smart and helpful people. Because you are an average of the 5 people you spend the most time with, so make sure you’re surrounding yourself with the people you look up to and respect.
Be honest, do you have a growth mindset, or a fixed mindset? Are you constantly looking at the obstacles, or are you looking at the possibilities?
The problem is that we don’t typically pay attention to our mind, because it’s automatic. We don’t need to hit a reset button every day. There is no “empty the trash” function in our brain that we have to think about. Us as humans are guilty of slipping into a bad mindset because we aren’t paying attention to needing to adjust it.
I bet you’re thinking right now… “Well, I can’t really change how my brain works.” See? That’s a fixed mindset. The truth is, we all have the ability to change our mindset and choose what we think about. We have the ability to choose how we feel about things.
One of the reasons that I host a Money, Mindset, and Marketing event every year is because if you don’t have all three of those things in order, chances are, you are not going to build a highly successful, profitable business that you love. You might make money, but do you hate what you do for a living? You might not make money, but you love what you do! It’s the perfect trifecta, Money, Mindset, and Marketing.
Number 2 on my list of things I do regularly is really important for everyone to, but especially for business owners. I host a Planning Day every year to help business owners map out their goals so that they can have their best year yet. If you want to join us this year, you can go to https://lisalarter.com/plan
Leave me a comment and let me know how you plan on creating a growth mindset in your life, and in your business.
