I want you to know that everything in your life is because of you.
The good, the bad, and the ugly in your life and business – everything is because of you.
If you don’t believe that, you are going to continue to live a lousy life, plain and simple. If you do believe that, you can change your life and your business in one step.
Addressing this has been inspired by my observations on Facebook. I am sick and tired of seeing people complain about life on Facebook when they have the power to change their situation.
I see people I know, like, love and have so much respect for, bellyaching over things that they have the power to change.
Change is really hard – I know that.
Quitting my job and starting a business was not easy. It was hard and it was scary! What if I failed? I made a decision to be self-employed in 2006 and I am self-employed today. I have a much better life because I decided I wanted to do that and I made the changes necessary to accomplish it.
I’ve had Crohn’s Disease for 32 years. Three years ago I was really sick and I decided to give up gluten. It was incredibly hard to give up the foods that I loved – I still think about a warm baguette with balsamic vinegar and olive oil! And, no, gluten-free bread does not taste anything like a good French baguette. I gave up soft, chewy, delicious naan bread even though East Indian food is my favorite type of food. It was difficult to say the least.
I decided feeling better was more important than eating East Indian food even though I loved it.
When my own mentor sat across the table from me and said, “Lisa, you have been telling me you want to be self-employed for 5 years. What has to change in order for you to do something?” I realized – and decided – that the only person who could change and make things happen was me.
We create our lives based on the decisions we make.
If you have a lousy job and you hate the people you’re around every single day…quit! Find another job. Or open your own business. Go do something different.
Yes it’s scary! But, you can do it, you can take that one step and change your life and your business.
If you don’t like your body – change the way you eat and exercise more. If you don’t like how much money is in the bank – do something about it! Spend less, find ways to earn more, learn how to improve your business.
These are all things we have control over.
I really believe that we attract more of what we put out into the world. That’s why I’m always talking about positive things and focusing on the good things as much as possible. Of course, I have lousy things that happen in my life too, but I CHOOSE to focus on all the good things that happen in y life instead.
I choose to be grateful for everything that goes well instead of being bogged down by the things that go wrong.
When something goes wrong in my life or my business, I don’t obsess about it day in and day out. Deepak Chopra once said, “Bless it and release it.” That’s what I do – I look at everything that goes sideways in my life and I ask myself one pivotal question…
What lesson am I supposed to learn so that this doesn’t happen again?
If you show up every day and you’re doing something you hate doing, or you’re surrounded by people you just can’t stand being around; you are one decision away from changing that.We are all one decision away from change and having what we want in our lives and our business. Click To Tweet
When you look at the negative things that happen to you and they keep happening over, and over again, it’s because you’re not learning the lesson that you’re meant to learn. When you learn the lesson you were meant to learn, things change.
I know that it sounds like this is easy for me to say because my life is pretty great, but that wasn’t always the case. There was a time when I used to live from over-draft to over-draft. I was in the hole before every paycheck and I had tons of debt. I quit a 6-figure job and worked for free for 2 years because I couldn’t afford to pay myself n my business.
The reason I did it was because I really wanted to own my own business.
I made sacrifices so that I could do the thing that was most important to me – owning my own business.
If you want to change your life and change your business, you need to decide what behavior inside of you needs to change.
At the recent Money, Mindset and Marketing event I talked a lot about how your beliefs affect your attitude, your attitude affects your feelings, and your feelings impact the way that you act.
If you feel like something is really hard – you’re not likely going to do it.
If you feel like something is going to be the best thing you every do and the reward on the other side of the hard work is worth it – then you’re more likely to take action.
What I want you to do is educate yourself. There are a million books out there on mindset, mental toughness, and things that can help you to build your self-esteem and become highly aware of your own beliefs, thoughts, feelings, and attitudes, and how they show up in your life and business.
These books are fantastic and can be life-changing:
- Mindset by Carol Dweck
- The Confidence Code by Katty Kay & Claire Shipman
- What To Say When We Talk To Ourselves by Shad Helmstetter
- The Charge by Brendon Burchard
- Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki
If you want to have a great life you’ve got to do something and one of the best ways to change how you think is to learn more – read these five books!
