Shop Talk – How To Add Your Picture When You Comment On Blogs

You may be wondering why your picture does not show up every time you leave a comment on a blog post. Your picture does not show up because you have not set up your Gravatar.

Your Gravatar is the universal Avatar that allows the internet to recognize who you are based on the email address you use every time you post a comment on a blog.

This is one of the most popular training videos I have done on how to set up your Gravatar. The reason you want a gravatar is because it allows people to easily recognize and identify with you when you comment on a blog post as well as link back to your and your website.

I have noticed that, although I have shared this before, there are still a number of people without a Gravatar commenting on my blog. Are you one of them?

Leave a comment below to see if your photo shows up or not. If it doesn’t, got to Gravatar and set it up and then come back and try again. Sometimes it can take a few hours for Gravatar to update so, don’t be worried if it doesn’t work immediately.

Q: I recently attended a live event and received a lot of business cards. Is it ok for me to add them to my email list?

A: Absolutely NOT! While I do gather business cards at events, I never ever add them to my list without getting permission first. My rule of thumb is to return home, add them into my address book, send a “thank you for connecting” email and ASK THEM if they would like to receive my newsletter. Remember, a little professional courtesy goes a long way. And, adding people to your list without permission will get you in some big trouble!

Q: What is the difference between Closed and Secret Groups on Facebook?

A: A closed group is a group that you can search for and find on Facebook. You can even view members but it requires you to get permission to be part of the group.

A secret group is hidden from the general public. The only way you can know about it is to be added by the administrator.

The best option for you will depend on the purpose for the group you are creating and the members who will be included.

Ask Lisa – How do I create an opt-in form for my website or a tab on my Facebook Page

Q: How do I create an opt-in form for my website or a tab on my Facebook Page?

A: This depends on what you use to manage your list and email marketing. Whatever service you use whether Constant Contact, MailChimp, Infusionsoft (this is the platform I use) or another, they will have an area for you to create your opt-in form and then it will give you the code needed for adding that to your site or Facebook Tab.

I chose Infusionsoft because it allows me to do more than just email and I can keep track of where people sign up for my list by having a different form on each site. Plus, I have more flexibility when it comes to designing my opt-in form.

Ask Lisa – How do I create an Event on My Facebook Page?

Q: How do I create an event on my Facebook page?

A: Once you have logged into Facebook click on the small white dropdown arrow in the upper right corner and choose to “Use Facebook as (your page name)”. When your page opens up, scroll down to the start of your timeline and you will see the option to add a Status, Photo/Video or Event, Milestone. Click on Event, Milestone, then click on Event. You can create your event here and post it to your wall. Once created, you can edit and add more details to it including an event image.
