Although I joke about this a wee bit at the start of this video, today’s topic is an important one.
It is about turning control back over to you so that Facebook becomes Your Facebook once again.
The reality is that sometimes we need to block people, or some of the intrusive things they do on Facebook. There is no shame in doing this, in fact in some cases my clients have discussed serious privacy concerns that could impact their safety when it comes to Facebook — so making sure that you know exactly how to do this is important.
I hope this week’s tips are helpful and allow you to take back control of your Facebook account so that you see more of what you like, and less of what you don’t like.
Summer wraps up and it is definitely time to get back to business. Here are four ways I plan on getting back to business and creating a banner Q4:
1) Launching a new program. In the fall you will see I am launching a program called Video Creation Formula. It is designed to help people who have never used video in their business. I want to help them just get started so they know how and can do it themselves. I will be using Infusionsoft to manage this entire program. It will help me to set up all my email marketing and manage the sequence of video training I will be sending out. It will act as my shopping cart for people who want to buy the program and it will help me to partner with other people and pay them commission if they want to promote the program. (If you want to be one of my partners just email email@example.com and let her know).
What I love about launching a new program and using a CRM like Infusionsoft is it will do most of the work automatically for me and it will allow me to easily measure everything that takes place: how many people sign up for free training, how many people open their emails, how many people buy, who referred those who bought, how much commission to pay partners and it will work with my merchant account to deposit funds directly into my bank account.
This is why I love Infusionsoft. It makes things easy for our business.
The link I gave you above entities you to some special bonuses from Infusionsoft and some special pricing. It is only good this year so if getting started on this platform is something you have been considering, schedule a demo so they can show you how it all works. You can use that link for a demo and it won’t cost you anything, but you will have some information on a tool that can help you in your business. Here is that link again if you want to know more: Infusionsoft
2) Refreshing my freebees. I also plan to refresh some of my free offers and change up my toolkit. I will be creating some new free things to help people in their business and I will once again use Infusionsoft to help me set that up so that when people opt in to receive the free item, Infusionsoft does all the work and I don’t have to worry about anything.
3) Express Gratitude to those who have worked with me. There are countless reports out there that talk about the cost of acquiring a new client versus doing more business with an existing client. Paying attention to your existing clients (the ones you LOVE to work with) just makes sense. I use a program called Send Out Cards to do this.
This Fall I plan on using it a lot more to keep in touch with people. The great thing about Send Out Cards is you can program birthday cards, anniversary cards, special occasion cards or you can send the same card to multiple people. You can upload a photo and create a card or you can use a generic card that they have in their shop.
Send Out Cards is a Direct Sales or Network Marketing style business and many people I know run their primary business using this model. I however, am more of a consumer of the product. I like what it does and the responses I get from my clients when I send them a card that has an Über-cool picture of them on the cover. That makes me stand out and really shows that I care. This is why I use it to keep in touch with my clients. If you get a card from me in the next little while, guess what? It means you are special 🙂
4) Invest in my own Learning. Stephen Covey spoke about sharpening the saw, I am a huge believer in investing in my own learning so I can grow personally and professionally but also so I can continue to serve and help my clients. The more I invest in myself, the more my clients benefit. This time next week I will be in San Jose at Brendon Burchard’s Experts Academy being totally immersed in learning (if you are going to be there let’s meet!)
Another one of my mentors is launching a free video training program right now, Ali Brown. Ali Brown is one of the first women I invested money in learning through many years ago when I started my business. Her $2500 home study kit helped me generate hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales as it gave me the blueprint (which I of course have modified and used to create my own model to teach others) to start my online business.
I know, like and trust Ali and think that she delivers awesome training. You should check out what she is doing if you have never been exposed to Ali’s programs.
When you get started using Social Media you will begin the exact same way as everyone else.
You focus on establishing your presence.
Most people do this by setting up their profile, filling out all the information about themselves, uploading a fancy photo, connecting with some people we know in real life and then learning all about the navigation or how things work.
This phase can be overwhelming or exciting depending on how easily you embrace technology. Regardless, your habits are all pretty much the same as everyone else when you get started.
After a bit the “comparison breeds misery” bug will set in. I am sure you can relate to what I am about to say: this is that phase where you start to compare with other people about how many friends, followers and connections you have. You start to notice how many people are interacting with others versus interacting with you.
You develop a heightened sense of awareness of how others are using Social Media for their business and suddenly you become acutely aware of your need to build an audience.
An audience is simply that — an audience. Your first step will be to collect some new friends, try some new approaches to getting people to comment on your posts. You will start to really hunt for people you know, and you might even try to connect with people you don’t know just to get your numbers to a certain level. You might even obsessively check to see how many people are commenting and liking your posts and steal the odd idea from a competitor.
This is the stage when you start to talk at your audience and you forget that they are people. People with feelings, thoughts, opinions and ideas of their own — just like you.
At some point (hopefully) this audience building phase will start to feel empty and not very rewarding. Counting friends can only stimulate you for so long!
Once this happens you will move into Community Building.
Community Building is by far the best thing you can do when it comes to Social Media.
You move from a place of comparison to a place of comfort. You realize that it is quality, not quantity that matters.
You realize relationships and connections are more important than the size of your audience.
Your orientation moves from trying to get comments and likes to really wanting to offer value for others and to stimulate real conversation.
This is when the magic happens.
This is when you no longer have to sell what you do because people who are part of your community who know, like and trust you will naturally self select your product or service when it makes sense.
Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone skipped the audience phase? None of us like to be talked “at”, and we certainly don’t like to be manipulated for a comment or a like!
This week ask yourself: who are you trying to serve when it comes to the people you are connected to on Social Media? What can you do to be a better community leader who can help others?
If you step back and take a careful look at your habits I am sure you will see ways to build stronger community. I’d love to hear some of your ideas on how to best do this.
One great example of community building for me was the Ultimate Kindness Project. We have raised over $12,000 to help one woman and her son. That is the strength and power of a community that cares and comes together.
It started with Rebecca Happy who noticed me asking for digital product donations to support this cause. She reached out with the idea for Chris Lang and I to collaborate on a full day event and we made that happen.
Then Roger and Sarah from Living at One reached out and offered to support the initiative by offering up their venue for us to use. The very same day, reaching out to their community, Roger and Sarah secured two TV spots for us to talk about our project.
Next, Chris Lang is turned away at the border and cannot get into the country for the event and Roger steps up and offers to help out.
Together we market the event and almost instantly ten people sign up and more continue to do so each day. All to support a community cause.
Doesn’t this just feel way better than having an audience?
Audience = one way communication. You listen, I talk.
Community = two way communication. We talk, we listen, we support.
I am so grateful to belong to a community that cares! The Ultimate Kindness Project was featured on CTV Morning Live here in Ottawa on Friday August 17th and I really wanted to share it with you.
They were fabulous! They gave us tremendous exposure about our upcoming event on August 28th to support The Ultimate Kindness Project and people responded by signing up and making donations. We are going to do this!

A boy who was not predicted to live —but he does, and he does so with a bright smile and an open heart.
He is eager to watch movies, play on the computer, go out with friends and be in school. He has an active life—when he can.
And he has all of this thanks to one person. One woman who demonstrated an incredible amount of care for his life and made a conscious decision to love and care for him unconditionally—even when she was told they did not expect him to make it.
This “Wonder Kid” would not have the life he has today if it weren’t for his “Wonderful” foster mom, Kim.
Living with a life-threatening illness means you live one moment at a time – parent and child. This child has lived with oxygen 24/7. This foster mom has given and supported his desire to live 24/7.
Kevin’s second home is the hospital and it is there he has survived hundreds of visits and procedures, thousands of injections and—well, you get the picture. If not for these visits and the outstanding care he receives there he wouldn’t be with us today.
So, it really goes without saying that getting to the hospital for this family is critical to living a normal life. A reliable vehicle is more than a convenience, more than even a necessity for them. It truly does mean the difference between life and death.
Though Kim is determined and tenacious, it takes more than determination and love to care for Kevin. As he grows his needs are more complex and require more and more resources. Attending to his care is her full time job – one she holds with dignity and grace, and without the luxury of a full time income, benefits or extras.
Simple health complications that you and I wouldn’t think twice about, create a major crisis for this child.
This is why we MUST help them. They don’t need fancy transportation.
All they need is a mini van that can be equipped with a special chair lift for his wheelchair and can transport all of his medical supplies when they go out for what we would consider an everyday drive.
The van they have today is on its last legs. With over 376,542 kilometers, this vehicle is no longer reliable in a crisis situation.
Most of us will not even depend on a car with more than 100k miles to get us back and forth to work every day…
Can you imagine having to rely on an old, worn out vehicle in a family emergency? Would you worry each and every day that when your child or loved one needed care the most, it wouldn’t start or would break down on the way?
Now the Big Question…
How Can You Help Get This Child the Safe and Reliable Transportation He Needs?

Learn the Key Tools That Most Business Owners Ignore, and Get People Wanting to Do Business With You
Wouldn’t it be nice if people were calling you and visiting you asking you to sell them your product or service?
Wouldn’t it be great if you didn’t have to compete with your competitors on price?
What would life be like for you if you could charge more for your product or service and people would still feel like they were getting a bargain? Sound like a dream? It doesn’t have to be.
For years I struggled to get customers, and every month I would start back at zero. I was frustrated that no matter how great my services were, I still wasn’t getting referrals!
One day, it clicked. I made a shift in the way I approached my business and everything changed. People started asking me to do business with them! They were sending me email telling me that I had to meet with their friends and family. And you know what the best part of it was? This new way to approach my business was actually easier and so much more fun than the old way.
If you want to learn this new approach for your own business, you won’t want to miss out on this exclusive training!
Here is What You Will Learn:
Why appealing to fewer people will get you better results.
How to identify your perfect customer.
How to develop ‘The Stack’, a marketing messaging system that can be applied to everything you do including: networking; your website; social media; video; promotional messages; etc.
How to craft your message so that people can’t wait to hear more about your business and they instantly think of people that could use your service!
The power of video!
How to use video to build your list, build a relationship with your customers, and position yourself as an expert in your industry.
The 5 short videos every business owner should create in order to get noticed on Google. (I have used this technique to get over 80,000 views on YouTube!)
Plus, I will show you all of the tools I used to make videos quickly and on a budget!
I normally charge $700 for the workshop where you’d learn these tools! I am offering them at this event as a thank you for supporting such an amazing cause. And as a bonus, I want to continue to support you. I will be holding a live webinar after the event to keep you accountable and make sure you’re applying what you’ve learned!

1:00 to 4:00: Lisa Larter will teach you her 5 Step Process on how to monetize your business with Social Media ($700 value):
From the Screen to the Register:How to Monetize Your Social Media Efforts
Do you feel overwhelmed and like you are wasting precious time when it comes to Social Media? You are not alone.
In this workshop, I will show you a simple five step process that will help you once and for all understand how to monetize your social media efforts in a way that makes sense. And the magic, is you will instantly be able to relate to these five steps and walk away empowered to use this process over and over again.
You will learn how to find your ideal client on Facebook and Twitter, and how to connect with them in a way that makes sense. This alone will teach you the first part of creating not only an audience but a community.
You will leave this session understanding the step by step process that you need to monetize your social media efforts. And, you won’t feel sleazy or salesy in the process. You can be authentic and genuine.
Too many people are treating social media like it is sales media. It’s like walking into a store and the sales clerk walks up to you and says “I need to pre-approve your credit card to make sure you have money to spend before you shop.” Ah no thanks, move on.
STOP treating people like this on social media. We are social beings, we want to buy but we HATE to be sold to.
Not only will I teach you about Return on Investment, but the new R.O.I which is Return on Influence.
And I promise, no matter how confused you’ve been by Social Media, in the end it will all make sense!
