Ask Lisa – Why Should I Make Lists of People I Tweet?

Q: Why Should I Make Lists of People I Tweet?

A: When you start to follow tons of people it becomes hard to keep up Lisa Larter Twitter Listswith everyone.  I like to use Lists so I can keep track of the people who are important to me.  For example, I have everyone in my Social Academy group in a List so I can see what they are tweeting about.  I follow over 7,000 people. If I didn’t segment them to a List I would never see their Tweets because of the volume of Tweets in my Newsfeed.

The same is true for when I went to the eWomenNetwork Conference.  I was following the #eWN2011 hash tag and adding people who were using it to an eWN list so I could make a point of finding a way to connect and talk to people.  I know this worked well because a LOT of people approached me at the conference to tell me how much they enjoyed talking to me on Twitter before the conference.

Lists are meant to help you to pay attention to people you want to pay attention to the most. For more on how to use Twitter lists and other ways to use Social Media to prepare for a Networking event, check out my workshop here!
