When I was in Asheville speaking at the Medipreneur conference, I stood in front of a room full of pharmacy professionals and made a bold prediction. I predicted the Amazonageddon of pharmacy.

I predicted that one day Amazon would be responsible for consumer fulfillment of prescription drugs and painted a picture of going to your doctor, having your prescription uploaded via a mobile app, and then delivered to your home within hours. No more needing to go to your local pharmacy.

On June 28th, 2018, Amazon paid 1B dollars to purchase Pillpack and will now have the ability to dominate and transform this industry.pina-messina-464953-unsplash

Back at the end of April when I made this prediction, I told everyone it wasn’t a matter of if Amazon would do this, it was a matter of when. I encouraged the people in the room to carefully consider the future and start proactively planning for the business they want to have if this change were to occur.

As a business owner, it’s critical that you can predict and anticipate change and realize when it’s about to happen. I’m not a pharmacy expert, but the writing on the wall was clear to me. If you’re coasting and expecting that your industry is safe, you’re probably in for a major unanticipated fall in the not-so-distant future.

Start thinking outside of the box. Start looking for how your industry could be disrupted. Anticipate change before change happens to you.

There is no such thing as job security, and there is no such thing as entrepreneurial safety. You have to create your future, anticipate change, take risks and create upward momentum in your business.

Stop waiting to react to what happens and instead, start planning how you want to shape and create your future.

As my mentor, Alan Weiss, said to me last week when I was in Newport attending Master Class, “The way of success is growth, not stability.”

This one statement inspired me so much I did a Facebook live to talk about it. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can view it here.
